Remi began his journey into wine in his country of birth, South Africa. Having grown up in the renowned winelands of the Cape Province, a four year degree in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch armed him with the scientific arsenal to match an already obsessive and all consuming interest in fine wine and how to make it.
Having spent two years working in South Africa, Remi moved to Margaret River in 2007 and never looked back. For the last 7 years he has been working and involved with some of the best and most progressive wines and wineries in the region, and country.
tripe.Iscariot is a premium wine producer located in the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia.
We source grapes from specific sites in the Southern end of the region, specifically chosen for its longer growing season, cooler climate, vibrant acidity and the resulting intensely perfumed, premium wines.
All vines are at least 15 years old and well established on their own roots. All fruit is dry-grown and hand-picked.
Although a recluse, and thus slightly warped and introspective, and in winemaking circles “young” and “inexperienced”, the one thing that requires no pedigree or sanity is boredom.
It is the aforementioned boredom, and his view that most of the wine industry is wrought with homogeneity, and it’s evil cousin perpetuation, that provided the first spark. This, coupled with a fascination for texture and flavour, and based on the belief that we have only begun to explore the bounds and extent to which these two components can be extracted from the grape and expressed through wine, has seen Remi embark on his own winemaking quest. He has put aside all of the crutches and banisters which winemakers cling to, and has crafted wines in styles and from varieties that are not only un-synonymous with Margaret River, but which also seek to illustrate the region’s vast and untapped potential as well as its ability to produce world class wine worthy of any international style or varietal benchmark.
